While taking my Type 2 class I was tasked with creating three dust jackets for a set of coffee table books. They all had to have interesting uses of type and had to be somewhat connected visually. The type of book I chose to make my jackets for was a set of coffee table books that focused on the different types of photography. The first book was about black & white film, the second was about colored film, and the third was all about digital photography.
When coming up with a word list for the project I used the word “Blink”. This made me think of a shutter and lens on a camera. Which then made me think of the human eye. This led to the compositions and names for each book. The books themselves were 12" x 33". The reason for making them this big in the first place is because while trying to think of the size I went back to the subject matter. Since the book consists of a majority of photographs and very little text I figured the larger the photographs the better.
