For this project, I was tasked with creating a box or packaging based on a subject or brand of my choice. The requirements of this project were that the packaging had to be sturdy enough to stand on its own, it had to have some sort of element that was removed, and it had to be made well enough that if a consumer purchased it they would have the incentive to keep and display it in their home.
The subject I chose to have my package was the late musical artist Mac Miller. With his passing happening not long before this project was tasked to me, I thought it would be neat if Warner Records released a box set collection of all of his studio albums together. I decided to make the outside sleeve of the box set a frame in order to show that the music is artwork by itself. For the cover of the box, I decided to collage various photographs from each album cover along with a few mixtapes and photos of Mac Miller taken throughout his career as a musical artist. Along with the five vinyl records that are included there is a slip of paper with a code to download every mixtape he had released under the alias Mac Miller. On the opposite side of the sheet of paper is a phone number for the substance abuse hotline. The reason for this is that Mac Miller not only died from an overdose, he suffered from demons and he let people know this through his lyrics. The number was then added in hopes of saving someone else’s life from the same outcome.
